The main areas of interest of the group are human performance in complex systems, integrated management systems in biomedical and medical systems, ergonomics in the workplace and occupational health and safety. The research group is truly multi-disciplinary comprising subject experts from the Colleges of Science, Engineering, Health Promotion, Law and Business. Title & brief description of PhD project (suitable for publication on web): Development of a systems model for managing risk to environment, quality and health & safety within a continuous improvement cycle. The Medical Device manufacturing sector is an increasingly important economic driver. This sector differs from traditional manufacturing in that it is highly regulated. Not only must a medical device manufacturer comply with regulation in the country of manufacture but also in the country of export. For example, many companies within these sectors manufacture for the United States market and so are regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Research has identified that the medical device industry in particular lacks a methodology for integrating their quality, environmental and health & safety management systems. This project will develop a systems model for managing risk to the environment, to quality and to health & safety whilst ensuring a cycle of continuous improvement. Version 2 Universidade Nacional da Irlanda em Galway -- Ciência sem Fronteiras Unique selling points of PhD project in NUI Galway: NUI Galway projects should emphasise features that are not typically available in Brazil – specific equipment, multi-disciplinarity, aspects of structured programme, links with industry, placements, links with other research groups etc. NUI Galway has a clearly defined structured PhD programme in place where students benefit from the expertise and support of a dedicated supervisor and a Group Research Committee.
