Previous work in Brazil: with Prof. Paulo Artaxo of Univ. Sao Paulo; INPA, and with FEEMA (Rio de
Janeiro). Major research areas: atmospheric chemistry & physics, free radicals (OH), aerosol nucleation, aerosol composition, emissions from oceans, plants, and volcanoes, climate change.
Title & brief description of PhD project (suitable for publication on web):
Innovative combined heat and power Stirling technology for domestic use
Unique selling points of PhD project in NUI Galway:
This project includes a collaboration with the Department of Engineering at NUIG. The student shall explore Stirling engine technology and optimize its application and efficiency for domestic heat and power production. The ultimate goal of the project is to develop new system(s) for energy-efficient retrofitting and renewal of heat and power units in existing buildings in Ireland and Brazil, ideally using renewable energy heat sources.
