Students will learn about the American Revolution,
chapter 9, specifically about the Declaration of
Independence. People your child will learn about are:
Thomas Jefferson, Phillis Wheatley, and George
Washington.
These next few weeks, we as a class will focus on
strengthening our personal narratives. We will continue
to focus on the writing process, and the necessary
steps we as writers need to take for our writing to be
clear and strong (Pre-writing, drafting, editing/peer
editing, final drafts and publishing). Students will
continue to work on their first and second drafts (writing
is an on-going process: always room to improve!).
Math
Our focus in math will still be Module 2, Fractions.
Students will work on: converting fractions, identifying
equivalent fractions, and representing factions with
decimals. Students are given the opportunity to
generate discussion, use manipulatives and rally coach
th
to further their understanding. *Math test October 13 *
Literacy
We are working on reading nonfiction stories, focusing
specifically on text features and structures. We will
continue to study the pieces that make a nonfiction
story so interesting and challenging.
Students will focus on finding books they enjoy to read,
and via interactive read–a-louds, students will learn
skills to grow as a reader. (We will read: Aarowhawk,
Women Explorers, Lizards, Henry’s Freedom Box, A
Warmer World, and many more). I will continue to
confer with students to monitor their reading.
