Social Studies
Students will be learning about the US in the 1800’s,
specifically forming the government (Chp. 10).
Students will read about the Constitution being ratified
and important people who helped shape our nation’s
history.
Math
Our focus in math is Module 4, Adding Fractions and
Order of Operations. Students will work on: adding
fractions with similar and different denominators, and
using the order of operations to calculate the answer to
a given equation. Students are given the opportunity to
generate discussion, use manipulatives and rally coach
to further their understanding.
Literacy
These two weeks we will focus our learning on the
author’s purpose within nonfiction stories.
Writing/ Spelling
We are working on expository writing (writing that
informs). These next few weeks will be the introduction
and beginning stages of our expository writing.
We will continue our work using the writing process
steps including: Pre-writing, drafting, editing/peer
editing, final drafts and publishing. Writing is an ongoing process: always room to improve.
*Students will begin to work on an expository writing
piece of their choosing. It will be research based and
will involve a presentation. (More info to come)
Spelling: Students are working on word sort packets
and activities. These activities will be done in class
during our writing block.
We as a class will continue our grammar instructionthis will make their writing stronger and clearer.
Nonfiction during reading will correspond well with
writing, as expository writing informs, and nonfiction
books give information. I encourage students to begin
reading nonfiction during class and at home.
