Social Studies
We will be focusing on the south and westward
movement of people in the early 1800’s. Focusing on
important battles like that of the Alamo, and important
findings such as gold in the California Gold Rush.
Chapter 13 assessment on March 23rd.
Math
Our focus in math will be Module 8, long division and
conversions using the metric system. Students will
work on: dividing three and four digit numbers using
strategies (partial quotient, regrouping, and standard
algorithm) and converting like measurement units
within the metric system. Students are given the
opportunity to generate discussion, use manipulatives
and rally coach to further their understanding.
Math assessment Module 8 on March 22nd.
Literacy
During these next few weeks students will be working
toward sharing clear and thoughtful ideas during
discussions. I will continue to work with students in
small groups or individually (working on different
reading strategies, or doing running records to see
which reading level they may currently be reading).

and activities. These activities will be done in class
during our spelling block.
We as a class will continue our grammar instructionspecifically working with homophones and homonyms.
Science
Science instruction will focus on simple machines,

are simple machines?”. We will work toward explaining
what work is and how work can be applied to all
objects, measure force, identify and describe simple
machines (even those that are household items). Our
vocabulary focus words are: lever, inclined plane,
screw, wedge, wheel and axle, and pulley.
