This past week we continued to build on our understanding of how to use text structures to gain a deeper understanding of what we read. We really focused on the problem and solution text structure and the description text structure. Ask your child how they used these tools in class! Math- In math, we continued to dive deep into multiplication and division. They’ve been using their developed multiplication and division facts to solve word problems. If your child is struggling with this at home, have them use pennies or beans to help them see exactly what the problem is asking them. Writing- As many of you have heard, the writer’s in our classroom are working on their drafts of their non-fiction writing piece. We have been exploring the different ways that author’s set up their nonfiction books so the writer’s in our class can decide what works best for their piece. We will be entering the publishing stage of writing soon! Science and Social Studies- In social studies, we are deepening our understanding of maps by creating our own maps of Illinois. The students have identified key landmarks and cities and are also learning the important information that goes along with each! Growth Mindset Words of the Month: Gratitude-to be thankful for something, to show appreciation for and to return kindness Mindset-the established set of attitudes held by someone Optimism- hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something Please use these growth mindset terms with your children at home. Other- The children are so excited about their upcoming plays! Please, continue to encourage your child to practice their play lines at home.
