Reading- Our readers have been so busy! We are continuing to work with poetry, which is very challenging! We have been identifying the figurative language that poet’s use and why they may choose to use certain types of figurative language. We have also been analyzing the specific words that poets use and how these words evoke emotion in the reader. Math- Our mathematicians have been working hard! We ended module 11 learning how to solve subtraction problems using the standard algorithm, the way that we all grew up using! The most challenging part of this was learning how to regroup (borrow) across zeros. We worked a lot with base ten blocks so the students could see exactly why we were re-grouping. Writing-Our authors finished up their fictional writing pieces. They should all be very proud of their hard work! We have started working on personal narratives which will take us through the end of the year! Science and Social Studies- The scientists are continuing to develop an understanding of space. We will be beginning our research projects soon! Some of the kids may have mentioned bringing in outside materials. I will send out an e-mail letting you know when they can bring those materials in. This project will be completed at school.
