Dates
January 4-Back to
School!
Reading- We wrapped up our non-fiction unit in reading. Our readers are now
able to use the author’s purpose, text structures, and text features of nonfiction writing to deepen their comprehension of what they read. It was
great to see them tie all of these components together!

Our actors and actresses have been working diligently on our play
performances! They had so much fun getting into character and pushing their
comfort zones a bit. Thank you for your support and assistance in this area!

Math- We have been working with real life multiplication and division word
problems here! Our mathematicians have really enjoyed solving problems for
Stanley (and unfortunately, I figured out how much he really eats!). You can
support your child in this area by encouraging them to solve problems that
may arise throughout the day.

We dove deeper into fractions this past week. The students are working on
recognizing fractions as numbers. We have been doing this by identifying
fractions on number lines, adding basic fractions, and creating our own
fractions. The kids have enjoyed expanding their knowledge base on this
topic.
Writing-You should be very proud of your author! The students in our class
have been working so hard on publishing their non-fiction pieces. They used
Google Docs to type and finalize their drafts into a beautiful finished product.
They are eager to show you their work!
Science and Social Studies-We have been practicing our plays in Social Studies
and Science.
Growth Mindset Words of the Month:
Gratitude-to be thankful for something, to show appreciation for and to
return kindness
Mindset-the established set of attitudes held by someone
Optimism- hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful
outcome of something
Please use these growth mindset terms with your children at home.
Thank you to those of you who were able to join us for our plays! The actors
and actresses were honored to have such a great turn out!  As always,
your strong support at home is greatly appreciated!
