POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Certification Specialist Non-Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Classified C JOB SUMMARY: Advise students on VA certification eligibility and benefits. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 1. Receive, set-up, update, verify, maintain and monitor student files; advise students on degree plans, degree changes, and courses allowed by VA regulations; verify files twice a year for state and federal audits to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies. 65% 2. Provide clerical services such as processing a variety of student information, including status changes, electronic certifications and degree changes; receive and prepare correspondence and certification paperwork; coordinate documentation with other campus departments. Answer telephone, take messages, route calls and respond to and refer student questions. Fax and e-mail information as required. 25% 3. Research, retrieve and compile data to produce rather detailed reports; provide enrollment counts and prepare monthly status reports; exchange information with internal and external departments and agencies to explain policies, procedures, rules and regulations governing department functions. 10% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Manager, Veterans’ Affairs Programs; Veterans’ Affairs Advising Manager ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: One year of college or equivalent. EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES: None SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Strong computer skills, good communication skills, and ability to reason and make decisions; good public relations skills, a team players attitude and the ability to work independently in a high pressure environment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion.
