Evening Courses Syllabus
Turkish Beginners
Turkish Level 1+
Prerequisite for entry
For those who have background in basic phonetic rules and are able introduce
themselves and describe things using most common nouns and adjectives. Basic
vocabulary of food, drinks, accommodation, greetings and most common adjectives
and verbs are essential.
Term duration
10 x 2-hour classes.
Aims and Objectives
The aim of the course is to enable students to function in everyday spoken and written
Turkish at a basic level. The course addresses all four language skills (reading, writing,
listening, and speaking) through various texts, tasks and dialogues.
Functions

Talking about what is happening
Talking about past events, experiences
Talking about the weather
Making a plan, telling the time, booking tickets for a cultural event.
Introducing themselves and others in details.
Likes and dislikes, hobbies and preferences
Understanding newspaper headlines and some simple news.
Course Content: Main topics/themes to be covered

Making plans for near future and talking about the what is happening at that
moment
Planning a shopping day, buying things, bargaining.
Book and film reviews, talking about their favourite films and books
Offering and asking for help while shopping.

Planning a party and a holiday.
Reading and writing simple recipes
Talking about past experiences, a holiday, using noun phrases: determiners and
adjective.
Reading a TV guide, newspaper headlines, some advertisements and
announcements, poems and songs.
Writing a personal profile of themselves and each other.
Writing letters to a friend.

Present Continuous in 4 forms.
Past Tense in nouns and verbs.
Past and present tense time expressions.
Future tense and future past tense
Imperatives and the optative - let’s and shall structure
