UCL CENTRE FOR LANGUAGES & INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION Evening Courses Syllabus Turkish Lower Intermediate Turkish Level 2+ Prerequisite for entry Successful completion of Turkish syllabus level 2 at UCL Language Centre or equivalent elsewhere (upon interview with tutor). Ability of making question and answer sentences and suggestions using possessives, noun phrases and common nouns and adjectives and optative. Term duration 10 x 2-hour classes. Aims and Objectives The aim of the course is to enable students to function in everyday spoken and written Turkish at intermediate level to communicate in Turkish to deal with everyday matters confidently. Cultural awareness will be developed through tasks, role play and authentic texts and videos. Functions - Talking about the future Talking about facts and their habits. Making requests, stating intentions and preferences. Expressing possibility and suggestions Expressing obligations, giving advice and negotiating Using time expressions. Reporting events. Talking about health. Talking about food. Course Content: Main topics/themes to be covered - Making plans for near future and distant future Health and fitness. 1 - Expressing their preferences, obligations, wishes and choices. Time related words. Phonetics - Vowel harmony Consonant changes: Hardening and Softening Comma use and the change in meaning. Grammar - Revision of time expressions: since, for, from .... until ...., after, before. Revision of let’s and shall structures and learning the question form, Which: ki suffix, different uses of ki. Past future Past aorist (used to) Past perfect Mek the infinitive Obligations, necessities: need to, do not need to, have to and don’t have to.
