I am currently the Principal Industry Specialist in the GICT Department of IFC, which I joined in 1998, having previously held the role of Director of Marketing and Product Development in British Telecom’s global consultancy division (BT Telconsult). My telecommunications career began in engineering and planning in BT, in 1966, but I left the company in 1978 to work for the Norwegian consulting company, Norconsult. After 7 very rewarding years as a network planner and, ultimately, Project Manager, with Norconsult, mostly in the Middle East, I rejoined BT in 1985, shortly after privatisation. Drawing on my recent experience, one of my earliest tasks was to develop a Marketing and Sales strategy for BT in the Middle East, as the company began its first overseas expansion. Eventually this led to my final position with BT, as Marketing Director.
