North Central Thames Foundation School (NCTFS) Individual Placement Description - Luton and Dunstable Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Placement The department The type of work to expect and learning opportunities Location Supervisor(s) Main duties of the placement Typical working pattern in this placement F2 General Practice There are currently 5 GP Practices based in Luton and Edlesborough that offer placements for F2s. Trainees will be allocated a practice once they have ranked the GP practices in order of preference. Daily opportunities to develop clinical and diagnostic skills Development of doctor-patient relationships through continuity of care Regular discussions with GP supervisor regarding patient cases, enhancing reflective practice Attendance and participation in minor surgery clinics (if held at GP practice) Improved prescribing skills – particularly for children and the elderly Trainees may be given the opportunity to undertake home visit (at the practice’s discretion) Luton or Edlesborough. Trainees will be allocated a GP from their practice Conducting consultations for patients given acute (same day) appointments independently, with GP supervision and guidance if required. Requesting and reviewing investigations (blood tests and imaging) Issuing acute and repeat prescriptions Referral letters to specialists if required Accompanying GPs on home visits Participation at practice clinical meetings Conduct or participate in audit Working hours are 40 hours per week (no banding).
