Rea Road Improvements - Construction to begin
From Highway 51 to Colony Road
Thank you for your patience
Thank you for your continued patience during the utility relocation
phase. Piedmont Natural Gas is wrapping up their work and AT&T
continues to relocate some of their poles along the project.
City Council awarded the contract to Triangle Construction on May
14, 2012. Construction is expected to begin July 9 and take 26
months to complete.
What’s Next
Work will commence on Rea Road between Highway 51 and Carmel
Estate Road. The contractor will also prepare the area between
Carmel Estate Road and Colony Road for the second phase of utility
relocation.
Project Features
Upon completion, the Rea Road Widening Project will improve safety
for motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists and transit. This project will
also address sight distance issues along Rea Road.
Project amenities will include a bridge, median, sidewalks, planting
strips, water line improvements, bicycle lanes and street lighting.
Funding for the $22.5 million project was included in transportation
bonds approved by voters.
Our goal during the construction of the project is to minimize
impacts to neighborhoods, businesses and commuting
citizens. Highlighted in the map (right) is the project boundaries.
