Piedmont Natural Gas is wrapping up their work and AT&T continues to relocate some of their poles along the project. City Council awarded the contract to Triangle Construction on May 14, 2012. Construction is expected to begin July 9 and take 26 months to complete. What’s Next Work will commence on Rea Road between Highway 51 and Carmel Estate Road. The contractor will also prepare the area between Carmel Estate Road and Colony Road for the second phase of utility relocation. Project Features Upon completion, the Rea Road Widening Project will improve safety for motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists and transit. This project will also address sight distance issues along Rea Road. Project amenities will include a bridge, median, sidewalks, planting strips, water line improvements, bicycle lanes and street lighting. Funding for the $22.5 million project was included in transportation bonds approved by voters. Our goal during the construction of the project is to minimize impacts to neighborhoods, businesses and commuting citizens. Highlighted in the map (right) is the project boundaries.
