Timeline: The committee will aim to prepare a draft of the strategic plan that will be
shared college-wide after the February 21st meeting.
Selected Themes: The committee reviewed and discussed themes related to fiscal
sustainability, advocacy, student accomplishment or success, pedagogy, technology,
community partnerships, and leveraging available buildings.
In addition to the notes reviewed at the meeting, the following points were discussed:
Fiscal Sustainability:
The institution must be able to flourish and thrive with some degree of autonomy
from apportionment-based funding.
Advocacy:
The college may advocate for a change in Ed Code for non-apportionment
revenue. Fee based credit courses
Student Accomplishment:
Implementation of degree audit, tracking student intent, identifying a pattern of
course-taking, or tracking student activity on the CR web page or on Webadvisor.
Focus on career education
Create more tracks – cohorts are successful but expensive
College engagement to improve persistence and success
Better market programs – too many choices leads to confusion for students
Basic Skills – remedial and developmental.
The college must develop an understanding of the core constituents it will aim to
serve
Challenge by exam
Pedagogical Innovations:
Potential use of data mining and analytics to improve teaching
Technological Best Practices:
With Technology, CR can reach communities outside of the District and isolated
communities within the district.
Need to develop a platform robust enough to be able to take advantage of
opportunity.
Technology infrastructure should be flexible with appropriate rack space or
redundant fibers
Geisce Ly defined the Strategic Plan as a dynamic document that inspires the college to
go in a certain direction. The committee discussed the need to ensure that the strategic
plan includes the rationale or reasoning for each goal as well as measurable targets for the
plan.
