Assessment Committee Assessment Software Brainstorming Session Jan. 13, 2012 Members Present: Justine Shaw, Angelina Hill, Peter Blakemore, Cheryl Tucker, Roxanne Metz, Ken Strangfeld, Paul Chown, Diqui LaPenta The purpose of the meeting is to brainstorm about what features and functions should be a part of the assessment program to be developed in-house. The visiting Accreditation team did not like that CR has its Assessment information spread between three sites: MyCR, InsideRedwoods.edu and public folders. The team wants CR have all assessment activities and data housed in one location that is easy to access and navigate. Initially the committee was looking to buying an established program but there is no money in the district budget to cover the purchase, implementation and yearly maintenance fees. Brainstorming Ideas: Currently CLOs are within curriculum documents. There should be a way to house the outcomes separately in a way that is also very easy to access. Centralized (outcomes, plans, documents, etc) Easy to access (off campus, or by public) which raises computer-security issues Should be intuitive, transparent, easy to navigate, organized (flow-chart like) Analysis, summary, query-capability by faculty and staff Mapping of outcomes, (course, degree/cert/GE/institutional) Tracking function Simplicity/efficiency Start off by choosing to work on a new plan or existing plan. Angelina Hill reviewed what Paul Chown and IR has developed so far. It is based on an access database that Barstow Community College shared with CR. All assessment data would be entered onto a webpage and the data would be store on the server. Suggested changes to the access database: Have separate text boxes for course-level narrative and for degree/certificate narrative. In the percentage breakdown of how expectations were met, add a box for “Not Applicable”. This would be for students who did not turn in the artifact being evaluated. Justine Shaw would like to be able to demonstrate the new program this semester on the Eureka, Del Norte and Mendocino campuses. Diagram of how the data should be navigated.
