SPA approval rates for Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 initial and revised reports were presented. Concerns with the SPA process include the inconsistency of scoring. In response to this, a leveling meeting was held recently at the national level for at least one SPA. Another concern is that sometimes a SPA has a particular emphasis that it looks for during a particular year. B. An update on alternative certification legislature pointed out that many folks (including Representative Ann Coody) would like to close the loophole that allows people to “test” into elementary education, special education, and early childhood education. Last year alone, more than 570 people added elementary education to their licenses. The legislature to fix this almost passed last year and is expected to come up again this year. C. Representative Ann Coody commissioned a reading study to look into how much reading knowledge is covered by the elementary education OSAT. She is leading the charge to look into what options are available to remedy this situation. Last month’s meeting minutes were approved. Other Business Old Business Packet contains approved minutes from August 13, 2008 meeting New Business 1. Program Transition point adjustment – Email any changes to Courtney. 2. Planning for Student Teaching Supervision – We are working with a collaborative model and need to determine who will serve as the content expert in the field and will complete the content addendum to the Student Teaching Assessment. Ronna asked that everyone research to determine if their SPAs require certified teachers supervise the student teachers and to determine who would be the appropriate person to serve as the supervisor. Please note that funding should be a non-issue. Provide feedback to Ronna before the next meeting. 3. Requests to Modify CHEM 1471, CHEM 1474, CHEM 1361, and CHEM 1364 – These modifications bring these courses into alignment with what has been happening in practice. Tobias Kuhn made a motion to accept the modifications with a change in prerequisite on 1471. John Hodgson seconded the motion, which was approved. 4. Request to Modify EDUC 5283– This modification adds a prerequisite to the internship for Educational Leadership. Russell Graves made the motion, and Kurtis Koll seconded it. The motion was approved. 5. Request to Modify EDUC 5583 and Request for Program Modification for MS Ed Leadership – These modifications change an existing course title and description and make a program change to require a more appropriate research class for the Educational Leadership program.
