2 1 Scarlet and Gray Newsletter February 16th to 19th, 2016 Volume 19, Issue 24 N Tuesday Monday Our math starter today was to determine the number before and after a given number. We greeted our friends, sang ‘Grand Old Flag’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by ones and read our popcorn words. We did our ABC charts with digraphs. We reviewed the habits of thinkers. We learned our new popcorn word ‘said’ and did rainbow writing of it. We read Arthur’s Chicken Pox by Marc Brown. We did literacy workshop. We were introduced to our poem of the week ‘3D Shapes’ and saw examples of those shapes. We read Cubes, Cones, Cylinders and Spheres. We figured out our mystery number. We focused on medial (middle) sounds in words. We graphed whether we gave a valentine to our mom. We read Me and My Amazing Body and did a Time for Kids – Take Care of Yourself. . No School President’s Day Wednesday We did a count and write activity, greeted one another, sang ‘Grand Old Flag’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by fives and tens and read our popcorn words. We did ‘Action Alphabet’. We reviewed the habits of thinkers. We read Arthur’s Pet Business by Marc Brown. We did speedwriting of our popcorn word. We worked on hearing and recording medial sounds. We sequenced the lines of our poem. We read Healthy Me and Washing Up. We watched a brief clip on properly washing hands. We heard Newsminutes presentations. We watched ‘Shapes for Sale’ about 2D and 3D shapes. Thursday The AM class attended ‘Seussical the Musical’. Both classes read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. The PM class greeted classmates, sang ‘Grand Old Flag’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted backwards from 20, subitized ten frames and read our popcorn words. We did blend cards and reviewed habits of thinkers. We heard Newsminutes presentations. They also used props to retell If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. We read, highlighted the popcorn word in and illustrated our poem. We did literacy workshop. We did shared reading. We found our mystery number and identified 2D and 3D shapes in various items. We watched Arthur’s Lost Library Book by Marc Brown. Friday We sang ‘Grand Old Flag’, said our class promise, greeted friends, read our popcorn words and reviewed habits of thinkers. We counted on from various numbers. We heard more Newsminutes presentations. We practiced writing our first and last names in D’Nealian handwriting. We read If You Give a Pig a Pancake and Arthur’s New Puppy. The AM class did literacy workshop. We did fitness, had recess and Guidance. The PM class had a fire drill.
