Themes of the Week: Building a Classroom Community/ School Expectations/Organizing Reading, Math, and Writing Workshops ! What a week of communication and perseverance! The SUNSHINES were creative and collaborated this week to continue to build relationships and community. They were respectful to their peers while launching reading workshop. QUESTION OF THE DAY BIG BUDDY COLLABORATION RICH MATH PROBLEMS Social Studies/Science/Health READING * The Sunshines talked about the following words: collaboration, flexibility, respect, * WOW! READING WORKSHOP THIS WEEK WAS AMAZING! THE SUNSHINES HAD SEVERAL GUIDING DISCUSSIONS ABOUT WHAT “READ TO SELF” LOOKS LIKE AND THE ROLES OF THE TEACHER AND THE STUDENT DURING READING WORKSHOP. EACH DAY, WE ADDED ANOTHER MINUTE TO OUR READING TIME TO BUILD UP STAMINA. communication, imagination, creativity, and perseverance. TECHNOLOGY * The Sunshines watched an internet safety video. We will begin to use the laptops in our classrooms for extra practice in literacy and math activities. SUNSHINE OF THE WEEK: Coming SOON! Using Mentor Texts to Write Continue to watch and look for updated information on this special time of our day to highlight each SUNSHINE! *WHAT A WEEK IN WRITING! THE SUNSHINES WERE INTRODUCED TO WRITING WORKSHOP. DURING THIS SPECIAL TIME OF THE DAY, THE STUDENTS WILL BE IMMERSED IN WRITING. THEY WILL HAVE PAPER CHOICES AND STORY CHOICES (NARRATIVE, INFORMATIONAL, OPINION) THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THE ORGANIZATION FOR WRITING WORKSHOP WAS SET UP USING ANCHOR CHARTS, CREATIVE SPACES THROUGHOUT THE ROOM, AND MENTOR TEXTS. SUNSHINE WORDS OF THE WEEK: REVIEW OF THE KINDERGARTEN HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS The Arts * After meeting with their Big Buddies (Mrs. Fourman’s 5th graders), the SUNSHINES collaborated to create a project based on their similar interests. * We continue to learn about each other through featuring one SUNSHINE daily. Reminders and Upcoming Events *WE TOOK THE FIRST STEPS IN BRAINSTORMING WRITING TOPICS. THE KIDS DID AN INDIVIDUAL ONE AND Communicating Thinking WE COMPLETED A CLASS HEART MAP. DOMINO ADDITION, AND BEANS AND TRAINS. THESE GAMES FOCUSED ON NUMBER SENSE SKILLS THAT INCLUDED: ADDING, IDENTIFYING AND COMPARING NUMBERS, AND REPRESENTING NUMBERS IN DIFFERENT WAYS.
