Fall and Leaves/ Math Strategies, Wonders, Thinking/ Reading Strategies/Narrative Writing Fall and Leaves combine to create the wonderful themes of this week. Throughout this week, the SUNSHINES will look closely and more deeply into their wonders about Fall, why leaves change colors, and how trees grow and change. They will explore and investigate to get solutions. IPAD DICTATION READING WORKSHOP SHARE CREATING ON PIXIE Social Studies/Science/Health READING * The Sunshines went on a leaf hunt! After reading and observing different shapes, sizes, and styles of leaves, we toured the school grounds on a leaf hunt. We charted characteristics that we noticed, compared and contrasted, created a leaf print, and collaborated with our big buddies to imagine a creation from the leaves! * GUIDED READING GROUPS HAVE STARTED. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE PRACTICING THE BOOK THAT IS IN YOUR SUNSHINE’S READING AT HOME FOLDER DAILY. THESE BOOKS ARE JUST RIGHT AND ARE GREAT TEXTS FOR REREADING WITH FLUENCY. PLEASE CONTINUE TO TALK ABOUT THE STORY AND HAVE YOUR SUNSHINE RETELL THE STORY IN THEIR OWN WORDS (WITH AS MANY DETAILS AS POSSIBLE). TECHNOLOGY * Out tech teams are in full swing! On their tech team day, the kids are able to participate in creating, collaborating, reading, writing, and practicing math skills on our class computers. Building Comprehension *Skills LETTERS OF THE WEEK: AT/AN ! * AFTER READING MORE MENTOR TEXT, THE SUNSHINES CONTINUED THEIR WORK IN WRITING NARRATIVES. THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, THEY PARTICIPATED IN “SHARE SQUARES” (WHERE 4 CLASSMATES TALK AND SHARE THEIR WORK). The Arts * The Sunshines created a leaf print from a real leaf. Social Development * We continue to work on what reading and writ ing workshop look like. Please ask your SUNSHINE how they can help our classroom be the best learning environment. *ALL OF OUR MINI-LESSONS THIS WEEK HEAVILY FOCUSED ON BEGINNING, MIDDLE, AND ENDING WORDS THAT CAN BE USED WHEN WRITING A NARRATIVE.
