News From Mrs. Rowe and Mr. Miller We hope that you have all stayed warm this week! We have been busy in the classroom with many hands on and partner activities throughout the day. Please note that there is no school tomorrow as teachers at the elementary level will be getting professional development that is geared towards district goals for high quality instruction in the classroom from Dr. Fred Burton and other district professionals. There will also be no school on Monday due to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. So, enjoy an extended weekend with your families and stay warm! Reading & Writing Workshop This week in reading workshop we compared and contrasted non-fiction texts that, at the heart, touch on the same concept, but require focused Mrs. Angela Rowe & Mr. Dave Miller Math Workshop This week in math workshop, students worked on adding and reading to determine. Students also practiced subtracting fractions from writing a reflective piece about multiple articles. fractions with like We will continue this reflective writing next week. In writing workshop, students have continued their denominators. research and began sorting their information into like groups. This will be turned into paragraphs and ultimately a complete essay in the coming weeks. Students have really enjoyed this time to research and learn from their reading, so we started “wonder time” during our morning and afternoon work blocks. During this time, students ask wonder questions and search for answers. Next week we will begin to think about how they Word Study This week in word study we wrapped up our unit on context clues. Students took an assessment over this unit on Wednesday. Next week, we will revisit the world of Greek and Latin roots. want to share what they have learned. Science This week in science we continued to learn about force and motion. Some activities we did included timing matchbox cars on ramps and building parachutes to learn about air resistance.
