News From Mrs. Rowe and Mr. Miller
We hope that you have all stayed warm this week! We have been busy in the
classroom with many hands on and partner activities throughout the day.
Please note that there is no school tomorrow as teachers at the elementary
level will be getting professional development that is geared towards district
goals for high quality instruction in the classroom from Dr. Fred Burton and
other district professionals. There will also be no school on Monday due to
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. So, enjoy an extended weekend with your
families and stay warm!

Reading & Writing Workshop
This week in reading workshop we compared and
contrasted non-fiction texts that, at the heart,
touch on the same concept, but require focused

Math Workshop
This week in math workshop, students
worked on adding and
reading to determine. Students also practiced
subtracting fractions from
writing a reflective piece about multiple articles.

In writing workshop, students have continued their

and ultimately a complete essay in the coming
weeks. Students have really enjoyed this time to
research and learn from their reading, so we
started “wonder time” during our morning and
afternoon work blocks. During this time, students
ask wonder questions and search for answers.

Word Study
This week in word study we wrapped up our unit
on context clues. Students took an assessment
over this unit on Wednesday. Next week, we will
revisit the world of Greek and Latin roots.
