News From Mrs. Rowe and Mr. Miller With Fair of Hearts this week, students had a fun time. We did some fun activities in the classrooms as well. Mrs. Angela Rowe & Mr. Dave Miller February 12, 2016 Reading & Writing Workshop This week in reading workshop we have been exploring the world of poetry. Students started Math Workshop In math workshop, we explored the order of operations and investigating word choice, which lead to thinking about metaphors, similes, and personification. On simplifying expressions. We Friday, we watched a fiction movie and searched reviewed volume at the for these features within that “text” (movie beginning of the week. scripts). In writing workshop, we have been editing/revising, and publishing our research writing. These research papers are a product of a lot of hard work and thinking around informational writing. They will hang in the hallway over the next few weeks and will then come home after that. In the meantime, your student can show you their writing on their Google Classroom document. Social Studies This week we have started discussing economics. We focused our time on supply and demand, opportunity cost, and scarcity. Students will soon be creating their own company where they will apply these economic concepts. Please continue to work on mastering basic facts, as we will be moving back into fractions soon. Word Study This week in word study we completed our Greek and Latin root unit on a, ab, abs (meaning away from). We also started a new unit on super and sur (meaning over).
