News From Mrs. Rowe and Mr. Miller Just a quick reminder, spring begins today. Students will return to school on Monday, March 28 after the week off. We hope that you all enjoy the time away. We had a great week here at school with many fun filled events from the Dodgeball tournament on Thursday to the puppet show on Friday. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to email us. Mrs. Angela Rowe & Mr. Dave Miller March 18, 2016 Reading & Writing Workshop In reading workshop we started looking at non-fiction texts from a different perspective as readers. We are working on explaining how an individual interacts/reacts to other individuals, events, ideas, and/or concepts in non-fiction. This is a tricky concept and we are taking it slow, one step at a time. Math Workshop In math workshop we started learning how to convert units of measurement (customary and metric). We have touched on capacity, length, mass, and weight. In writing workshop we are continuing to think about argumentative/opinion writing. This week we really linked some of our earlier learning this year to our writing. We have been thinking about word choice as we begin to craft our arguments. Students have started to think about word choice in relation to connotation. Science We revisited ecosystems this week. We will continue this after break as we talk about animals and their role in the ecosystem. We will then shift to Social Studies where we will learn about explorers. Word Study This week in word study we took a short break away from units and focused on some fun word study activities (making big words, word ladders, and other word games).
