May minutes: to be approved with changes o Motion: Catherine Powell o Vote to approve voted "aye" by all present except for Craig Shira, who abstained President's Report o Board Meeting Speaker advocating reform of prop 13 Notes on emeritus retirement Lorenzo Legaspi brief on budget Tentative amount for Chabot: $37.7 million Tentative amount for Las Positas: $26.4 million District will need to contribute toward faculty benefits Landscaping at Chabot along Hesperian project was approved and will begin Comments made that the District doesn't address the landscape needs Chabot actually has Comments made that this doesn't address campus safety o Students cut through bushes and trample the plants o A place for cars to drop-off people is needed Two new leadership position changes Interim Dean of Science & Mathematics: Tim Dave Interim Dean of Counseling: ValJean Dale Vice President's Report o Classified Appreciation Week went well o Discussion: Classified Senate Retreat Suggested to have it in August Survey to be sent to Classified Senators to vote for best day to hold a retreat Suggestion: budget money for events at retreat o Upcoming events Aug 14 Convocation at Las Positas Aug 15 College Day Sept 2 Flex Day Secretary's Report o No report Page 1 Classified Senate Minutes – 19 June 2014 Treasurer's Report o Co-curricular account: $4,919.68 o General fund account Supplies: $30 Travel: $2.56 o Deductions from payroll to co-curricular account: $115/month o Expenses Scholarship: $500 Travel for Yvonne Wu-Craig: $78.40 SEIU Report o Chabot Thursday, June 19, 2014 deadline for contract proposals for both Union and District District has been very quiet and will likely submit proposals before midnight District will likely propose increase in medical premiums Union proposed 5.5% pay increase for one year Union proposed wording change for section describing Campus Safety overtime Union proposed payment for Classified Senate Union proposed that employees required to wear uniforms to be reimbursed for buying uniforms, up to a certain dollar amount District hasn't responded to most requests and have said "no" to almost everything else o Regional State elections held recently Oakland working to raise minimum wage and will be on the ballot in November Richmond, Berkeley, San Francisco working on minimum wage legislation too Steve Stevenson, former Classified Senator, wants to continue being a representative on the Bookstore Committee Facilities Committee o Building 1700 will be up by July—working on courtyard o New marquee sign has been bagged for the past month because of graffiti Contractor left a scaffold next to the sign, allowing it to be vandalized Page 2 Classified Senate Minutes – 19 June 2014 Contractor has since moved the scaffold and chained it to a tree, which violates safety code, is a liability, and could injure someone if it falls o Redoing drains in the softball field because of a problem with the original construction o Tim Nelson saw damage by contractors in the parking lots Parking lots will be repaired during the summer During repairs, the lots will be closed Traffic will need to be re-routed o Fire alarm system is old and is currently running on refurbished equipment. A new system is being researched.
