College of Arts and Sciences Committee on Academic Programs (ASCAP) Minutes for Meeting of November 24, 2014 A meeting of ASCAP was held on Monday, November 24 at 3:00 p.m. in Holden Hall 129. Committee members present were: Gretchen Adams, Scott Baugh, Kelly Cukrowicz, Gary Elbow, Matt Olson, Jacob Mota, and David Roach. Presenters: Drs. Nes, Poirier, and Weber (Chemistry and Biochemistry), Dr. Friedman (Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures), Dr. Lumpkin (Health, Exercise, & Sport Sciences), and Dr. Barenberg (History). 1. Pending minor revisions, the committee voted to recommend approval for the following proposal from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry: Proposal for Master of Science Degree in Chemical Biology. 2. Pending minor revisions, the committee voted to approve the following proposal from the Department of Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures: Add CLAS 4601, Classical Field Archaeology. 3. The committee voted to approve the following proposals from the Department of Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences: Delete ESS 4361, Applied Biomechanics. Delete ESS 4365, Applied Motor Behavior. Delete ESS 5341, Curriculum & Instruction in PE and Sports. Delete ESS 5343, Applied Research in PE and Sports. Delete ESS 5347, Practicum in Teaching PE and Sports. 4. Pending minor revisions, the committee voted to approve the following proposals from the Department of Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences: Add ESS 3324, Teaching Physical Activity and Sports. Change title, course number and description for ESS 4075, Internship in Exercise Science. Add HLTH 1306, Introduction to Public Health. Add HLTH 4308, Introduction to Biostatistics. Add HLTH 4313, Mental and Psychological Health. 5. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposal from the Department of History: Add HIST 4373, The USSR and the Cold War. 6. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposal from the Department of Psychological Sciences: Add Graduate Certificate in Psychological Methods and Analysis. 7. No representative from the Department of Psychological Sciences was able to attend the ASCAP meeting, so the following proposal was tabled. Add PSY 3390, Introduction to Positive Psychology. The next scheduled meeting of ASCAP is set for 3:00 Monday, December 8, 2014. Proposals for this meeting need to reach the Dean’s office by Monday, December 1.
