Math 1080 – Homework Grading Rubric Homework problems are assigned and collected for each section that we cover. Each homework section is worth 10 points. All sections will be graded for completion and most sections will be graded for correctness. Mostly odd problems are assigned, so that you can check your work. You can check the correctness of even problems in office hours or problem sessions. You should get help with any problems you are not able to fully solve. The following rubrics will be used to determine a homework section’s score. CASE 1: Homework section is graded for both correctness and completion. o Completion Rubric (5 pts. possible): +0 0-‐20% of the problems completed +3 50-‐75% of the problems completed +1 20-‐30% of the problems completed +4 75-‐90% of the problems completed +2 30-‐50% of the problems completed +5 90-‐100% of the problems completed For a problem to be counted as completed the following criteria must be met: Enough work is shown to determine that a reasonable attempt has been made. Enough information is shown to understand what problem is being solves without looking it up in the book. Note: If the grader can’t tell whether you did the problem or just wrote down the answer from the back of the book, the problem will NOT be counted as complete. o Correctness Rubric (5 pts. possible): The grader will grade 1 problem. You will not be told ahead of time which problem from the section will be graded for correctness. +0 solution is illegible OR problem is not completed poor Presentation some work shown, (Clear what the problem asks. All steps but could be more clear/explicit shown in an organized way.) good Correctness (Work shown and supports the answer) partly fully incorrect correct correct +1 +2 +3 +2 +3 +4 +3 +4 +5 CASE 2: Homework section is graded for only completion. o Completion Rubric (10 pts. possible): +0 0-‐10% of the problems completed +1 10-‐20% of the problems completed +2 20-‐30% of the problems completed +3 30-‐40% of the problems completed +4 40-‐50% of the problems completed +5 50-‐60% of the problems completed +6 60-‐70% of the problems completed +7 70-‐80% of the problems completed +8 80-‐90% of the problems completed +9 90-‐95% of the problems completed +10 95-‐100% of the problems completed
