MATH1320 Homework Grading Rubric
Lecture Assignments:
Lecture homework problems will be assigned and collected for each section we cover. Lecture
assignments will be updated on the course web page after each section has been completed
in class and will be due the Tuesday after the content week at 9:25am. Lecture assignments
may be turned in during class, in the box outside my office door, or as a scanned pdf (no
photos) via email: strube.laura@utah.edu.
Each lecture assignment will consist of suggested problems (not turned in or graded) and
collected problems (turned in and graded). Each collected assignment will contain multiple
problems and the grader will select some portion of these problems to grade for correctness.
You will not be told ahead of time which problems will be selected.
Homework completion and correctness will be weighted evenly.
Lab Assignments:
Lab assignments will be distributed in class and are due in the student’s registered lab the
week after they are assigned. Digital submissions will not be accepted, however lab assignments may be turned in during lecture before they are due.
Each lab assignment problem will be graded for correctness.
Homework correctness will be weighted to 80% of the lab assignment and lab attendance
will be weighted to 20% of the lab assignment.
————————————————————————————————————————
The following rubrics will be used to determine a homework’s score:
Completion Rubric (5 pts possible):
Homework completion will be weighted to 50% of the lecture homework assignment):
+0 0 - 20% of the problems completed +3 50 - 75% of the problems completed
+1 20 - 30% of the problems completed +4 75 - 90% of the problems completed
+2 30 - 50% of the problems completed +5 90 - 100% of the problems completed
For a problem to be counted as completed the following criteria must be met:
• Enough work is shown to determine that a reasonable attempt has been made.
• Enough information is shown to understand what problem is being solved without
looking it up in the book.
Note: If the grader can’t tell whether you did the problem or just wrote down the answer
from the back of the book, the problem will not be counted as complete.
Correctness Rubric (5 pts each problem):
(Homework correctness will be weighted to 50% of the lecture homework assignment and
80% of the lab homework assignment):
+0 Problem is illegible OR problem is not completed
