PARISH FINANCIAL RESULTS
The 2009 annual parish support program, The Pledge for the Greater Glory, is now under way. The goal of the
annual support program is to have every parishioner pledge his/her contribution to the parish for the 2009
calendar year. Contributions via this program are used to cover the operating expenses of the parish, including
staff salaries and benefits, utilities, and the cost of our liturgies, including musicians.
Our financial performance for March and April and since the beginning of our fiscal year in July 2008 is
summarized below. As you will notice, we are in need of greater participation in the funding of our beautiful
parish to cover ever-increasing costs. We ask that you continue to support the parish, and increase your support if
possible, to help us cover what we expect will be much higher operating costs over the remainder of 2009.
JULY 2008 THRU APRIL 2009
March/April 2009
Operating Income
$187,178
Operating Expense
$244,867
Operating Deficit
($57,689)
$966,866
$1,010,401
($43,535)
Please note that Gifts and Bequests to the parish have totaled $229,000 year-to-date, offsetting the shortfall in
operating income. Please consider including St. Ignatius in your will and estate planning. Bequests to the parish
are a wonderful way of supporting St. Ignatius.

LOOK UP AND SEE
In ancient times, art and architecture was used in churches to teach and inspire the faithful. Our
church continues that tradition, using stone, wood and glass. You are invited to take a new look
at our church, to see its beauty and to allow it to deepen your faith.
As you enter the church from the front, you walk
beneath the choir loft. There are two pillars of wood
that support the choir loft: one adorned with the figure
of St. Cecelia, the patron saint of music, and the other
bearing the figure of King David, who with his harp,
danced and played before the Lord. In the middle, you
will find a wood plaque, bearing the likeness of St.
Gregory the Great, in honor of the Gregorian chant.
What a fitting home for our grand Cassavant organ, the
source of wonderful music that inspires our liturgies!
Over the choir loft is the Christ the King window.
Largest of the windows in the church, it is distinctive
for five lofty lancets (divided windows) and delicate
limestone tracery. In the middle lancet Christ the King
is seen enthroned. In His lap he holds a tablet
inscribed with the single word "Pax" ("Peace") to stress
the fact that only Christ's reign can bring peace to the
world. Above His head hovers a dove, the symbol of the Holy Spirit. At Christ's feet
is the globe of the earth watered by seven streams, the Seven Sacraments.
In the lancet on the extreme left two figures from the Old Testament are seen: Moses,
holding the stone tablets of the Law; and the prophet Elias, writing on a scroll. These
two figures were chosen because they appeared at the Transfiguration when our Lord
manifested his kingly splendor for the first time. In the lancet on the extreme right
appear two figures from the New Testament: Saints Peter and Paul. The latter holds a
sword, the instrument of his martyrdom and symbol of justice. The former is carrying
not only the keys, the symbol of the Papacy, but also a model of this very Church of
Saint Ignatius Loyola.
Elsewhere in the window are the symbols of Faith (a cross), Hope (an anchor), and
Charity (a heart); of the four Evangelists: Matthew (an ox), Mark (a lion), Luke (a
man), and John (an eagle); and of the Resurrection (a lamb carrying a banner).
Furthermore, pictured in the window are the tools of an artisan, a doctor, a reader, an
artist, a student, and an astronomer—signifying the various spheres of human activity
of which Christ the King holds dominion.
