SENIOR VILLAGE AT ST. ANNE’S IN KINGSTON, JAMAICA
Thank you all for your generous contributions of $2,991 to the collection for the senior housing at
our sister parish, St. Anne’s in Kingston, Jamaica. Because of your generosity, we surpassed our goal
of $2,859 needed to furnish each house with a bed, dresser and bedside table. Your giving is a blessing!
SUMMER SINGING AT ST. IGNATIUS - During the summer months, our morning choir takes a break but there
are still opportunities to lift your voice at St. Ignatius. The 5:30 Sunday contemporary ensemble gathers every
Sunday afternoon at 4:45 in the church and is open to all singers. The Latino Coro sings every Sunday at the
Spanish liturgy at noon in the lower church. They meet at 11:15 am before the Mass and rehearse every other
Thursday evening. Please contact Michael Burgo
for more information at 552-6108 or burgo@bc.edu.
LITTLE ROCK BIBLE GROUP - “The Remnant Group” meets Wednesdays in the Lannon Chapel from 7:15 pm –
8:30 pm. We will see a video of the upcoming Sunday readings and follow it with a group discussion of questions
and answers pertaining to the readings. It’s a great way to prepare for the Sunday homily! Newcomers are
welcome. Refreshments will be served. If you have any questions, please call John Dafarra at 781-899-9540.
FAITH FORMATION
REGISTRATION FOR 2009 – 2010
St. Ignatius Faith Formation has begun the registration process for the 2009 – 2010 academic
year and will continue throughout the summer. As usual, the earlier you register, the easier it
is for our office. Because we are grateful when you register early, we will ask for a “pre-registration” donation of
$200 per family. After September 20, our registration fee will be $250 per family.
How to register:
Via Email
An electronic copy of our registration form will be sent out starting June 4. You can return it via email –
please be sure to sign the bottom in acknowledgement of the policies listed on the reverse side of
the form. If you choose this method, please submit a check to the rectory at your earliest
convenience.
Via the web
Our registration form will be posted online beginning June 4. You can download the form there and
return it via email or via traditional post. Again, please do sign the form to acknowledge that you
are aware of the policies on the reverse side.
Via Traditional
Completed registration forms can be mailed to: Amy Chapman, St. Ignatius Church, 28 Commonwealth
Avenue, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467.
Register in Person
Call or email for an appointment to come to the rectory anytime Jerry or I are in the office (usually every
day of the week except Saturday) and we will help you with the paperwork. You can also pick up
a registration form and mail it back to us, or you can drop off a completed registration form in my
mailbox.
Look Up and See
In ancient times, art and architecture was used in churches to teach and inspire the faithful. Our church
continues that tradition, using stone, wood and glass. You are invited to take a new look at our church,
to see its beauty and to allow it to deepen your faith.
On either side of the sanctuary is a set of three windows. In a band of ornament above each set
of windows, carved and accented with gold leaf, is the motto of the Jesuit Order, "Ad Majorem
Dei Gloriam", For the Greater Glory of God. Above, crosses, carved with the initials “IHS”,
appear on the ceiling of the sanctuary.
The three windows on the Epistle (Commonwealth Avenue) side of the
sanctuary recall the three sacrifices of the Old Testament that
prefigured the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The window nearest the altar
portrays the Patriarch Abraham preparing to sacrifice Isaac in
obedience to God's command. Here, too, is pictured the angel divinely
sent to stay the hand of Abraham, since God was only testing Abraham's willingness to obey.
The center window of the group presents the sacrifice of Melchisedech, the first priest
mentioned in the Bible to offer bread and wine. The last window on this side depicts the slaying
of the Paschal Lamb. In the background of this window is seen a family seated at the table
while the father is painting the doorpost with the blood of the lamb to escape the avenging hand
of God.
The first window on the Gospel side (nearest the parking lot) of the
sanctuary presents Moses viewing the descent of the manna which God
sent from heaven to feed the Israelites. The middle window shows Christ
blessing the bread at the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and
fishes. The third window depicts the disciples at the supper table at
Emmaus when they recognized Our Lord in the breaking of the bread.
