FAITH FORMATION NEWS REGISTRATION FOR FAITH FORMATION FOR 2008-2009 Registration for the 2008 – 2009 academic year has begun. While registration will continue through the beginning of September, the earlier you register, the easier it is for us to plan for the fall. This year, when you register, if you have a child who will be receiving a sacrament in 2008-2009, we would ask that you fill out a separate sacramental registration form when you fill out your registration form for the program. We have had some trouble with our numbers this year for sacramental preparation, and we are hopeful that this step will help us to keep a better record of who is in our community and intends to prepare for receiving a sacrament in 2009. In order to keep our information as accurate as possible and to plan for the upcoming year, we will have the following available: Registration Form for 2008 – 2009 Faith Formation Program Registration for the parish (if not already completed) Sacramental Registration forms (First Reconciliation/First Eucharist OR Confirmation) Sign up sheets for the following: Volunteering as a catechist Volunteering for liturgical ministries (Eucharistic Ministering, Liturgical Coordinating, Eucharistic bread baking). IREPM Summer Institute Conference Week July 14-18, 2008 To register for any or all of these courses/workshops, go to http://www.bc.edu/schools/stm/irepm/academics/summer/showtoreg.html TM657 Gustavo Gutiérrez and James Nickoloff Church of the Poor Come hear the father of liberation theology explore the historical development, theological foundations, and pastoral consequences of a church of the poor. Topics to be examined include (1) the historical development of the term itself (first used by Pope John XXIII); (2) the relationship between evangelization and liberation; (3) the preferential option for the poor; and (4) the requirements of Christian discipleship today. Greater Boston Interfaith Organization Workshops The Arts of Public Life - Power, Justice, Self-Interest and the World as it Should Be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (July 15-17) 2-4 p.m. These workshops will explore how we get "traction" with social justice -- moving beyond proclamation and witness to concrete, measurable, visible impact in the real world. How do we bring the values we cherish to bear in the public arena? How can we have conviction yet "compromise"? And who "leads"? And how is this "ministry?” And what is our imagination for the local parish as "mediating institution." The teaching mode will be very interactive with the students, and will include a combination of presentation (concepts and examples), engaging students to react to what is being presented, questions, and role play, with scripture text woven in where appropriate. TM 809 Joyce Rupp A Spirituality for Our Time The core foundation of any viable spirituality in this global era includes compassionate presence, the central quality of Christ’s life and ministry. This course recognizes that a life with God is a relationship lived in a world in which suffering touches every life in some way. This world includes ethnic factions, massive injustice issues, active terrorism, troubling environmental situations, millions of refugees, challenging ethical issues, and church discordance. This course approaches spirituality through the wide angle lens of compassion, viewing it from scripture, various religions, and an array of other sources including quantum science, medical studies, sociology and psychology. Through both lecture and integrative processes, students explore the theory and practice of compassion in order to cultivate compassionate presence in all aspects of their life CATHOLIC GAY AND LESBIAN CONCERNS In an effort to facilitate We strongly urge our parishioners and visitors not conversation for our Gay and Lesbian to leave their belongings in parishioners, as well as parents and family the pew when they leave to members of Gay and Lesbian Catholics, we receive Communion.
