EASTERN POINT RETREAT
F INDING GOD IN ALL THINGS
The Jesuit Urban Center
is hosting a weekend retreat at Eastern Point in Gloucester on September 15th – 17th,
directed by Fr. J. A. Loftus, S.J., assisted by Fr. Bob VerEecke, S.J. Members of our parish
community are invited to attend. The cost of the weekend is $185. Please call the rectory to
register, 617-552-6102.
Dear Parishioners,
As you can plainly see from a walk around the church inside and out, there is plenty
that’s happening! I am grateful for the patience of our staff and parishioners as all these
important projects are taking place. As you know, the HVAC system was a critical need for us
since our old heating system was on its last legs! We are fortunate that the new heating system
will also allow for cooling in the summer months. It will also contribute to keeping the air drier
in the church, and we know that that will be a great benefit! We are hoping that the AC will be
working in the next few weeks. I am also told that the renovated bathrooms in the lower church
should be ready within two weeks or so. Again, I am grateful for the patience of all who have
been inconvenienced by the lack of “conveniences”.
One other project that I would like to mention is the building of a “temporary” extension
of the sanctuary this summer. Beginning the week of July 10th, we are having a platform built
that will extend the sanctuary into the body of the Church, and move the altar closer to the
assembly. This platform is part of a liturgical renovation that was approved a number of years
ago, and we are now in the process of addressing. This temporary platform will enable us to
see how a permanent one will work for Masses, weddings and funerals. The platform should
be with us for the summer and will be removed before the choir returns in September. Again,
thank you for your patience and understanding.
Sincerely,
Fr. Bob

2006 CATHOLIC APPEAL REMINDER - Our appreciation goes out to all parishioners who have made a gift to
the 2006 Catholic Appeal. To date, we have received $53,129 from 101 donors and are at 59.76% percent of our
parish goal of $88,900. If you haven’t yet pledged for the Diocesan Appeal, please consider the needs of the
many good works sponsored by the Archdiocese. Here at St. Ignatius, we are particularly grateful for the
Archdiocesan Emergency Fund that is allowing us, through a low interest loan, to finish the HVAC system in a
timely fashion.

VOLUNTEERS
Join a team of St. Ignatius parishioners that will be working at a
Habitat-for-Humanity construction site on Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester on
Saturday, July 15th. You can do it! Energy and enthusiasm are the only
requirements -- no prior construction experience necessary. Spend the day working
to “build hope by building homes” in partnership with low-income families in need of
decent housing. To sign up, e-mail Anton Finelli at afinelli@crmcx.com. Not a
build-er?? You can be an important part of our Habitat efforts by sponsoring our
Build-ers; a Sponsor sign-up form is on the table in the Gathering Space.
