SUPPORT FOR THE WORK OF THE JESUITS IN SOUTHERN SUDAN
The collection which will be taken up on Holy Thursday will be directed to the work of the Jesuits in
Southern Sudan which will become an independent country this July. The cover of
this week’s bulletin shows a picture of an offertory at St. Joseph's Parish, Lutaya for a
special celebration. The request for support comes from Fr. Kevin White, S.J. who is
working there. The following is in Fr. Kevin’s own words:
“Requests that come to me all the time are for school fees, hospital fees, medical expenses,
strengthening the infrastructure of our local church and homes, need for bibles, rosaries,
shoes, eyeglasses, books and food, as well as helping someone in some crisis. The latest example
of a ‘crisis’ would be yesterday’s request for assistance from a young (25 or so) husband
and father and member of our church’s choir who lost his hut to a fire two nights ago. No
life was lost, for which we are grateful, but everything else was: beds, clothes, documents,
utensils, water containers, etc.”
PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN PROGRAM
The Archdiocese of Boston requires all church volunteers (in whatever capacity) to complete a training
program in child abuse prevention. If you are a new volunteer in any St. Ignatius ministry, you must be
able to verify your attendance at a Protecting God’s Children (PGC) program. If you have any questions
or concerns, please contact the appropriate supervisor of your ministry.
St. Ignatius will sponsor its last program until fall on Sunday, May 1st , 2011, from 3:00 to 5:30 PM in the
Choir/Media room of the lower church.
If you are planning to attend this session of Protecting God’s Children, you must register by
April 15th.
Please inform the St. Ignatius Office (Betty McLaughlin @ 617-552-6102 or ignatius@bc.edu) if you plan on
attending.
Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a safe and secure atmosphere for all children at St.
Ignatius parish.

the Sunday scriptures. Feed your body, mind and soul!! The next session, Food for the
Journey, discussing the readings for the Body and Blood of Christ, will take place on
Thursday, April 28th in the Friary Room from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. All are welcome! Prior registration

THE MARTHA GUILD IS SEEKING FOOD AND LABOR DONATIONS FOR THE EASTER VIGIL
RECEPTION. The menu, like last year, is that of a dessert bar. We are in need of cookies, brownies,
candy, pastries, etc. It is ideal that food is donated in two to three dozen quantities. Please consider
assisting as a greeter and/or server. Because the influx of people is so great, we have greeters at the front
entrances encouraging guests to walk all the way into the Friary Room. Food servers walk around the
room, about 30 to 40 minutes after the event has begun because it's too crowded before that, to see if
platters need to be replenished and if dishes, cups, napkins, etc. need to be disposed of. If you are
interested, please feel free to contact Jena Murphy at jena_murphy125@hotmail.com or 617-713-4400.
For Easter, we would invite you to remember your loved ones by making a donation to
purchase a plant in their name. These plants will be used to make the Church bloom
for the season and an acknowledgement of gratitude will appear in the bulletin.
If you would like to donate, please out the form below and return to the rectory by
April 20th , together with your donation.
Yes, I would like to donate $_________ to remember:

OPERATION RICE BOWL FOCUS: UNITED STATES
While 75 percent of Operation Rice Bowl contributions support CRS’ programs around the
world, 25 percent remains in the United States to fund local diocesan hunger and poverty
alleviation efforts. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, a portion of local ORB funds support
the Southwest Chicago Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS). PADS provides food,
clothing and support to help the homeless find permanent places to live. This program is
grounded in the Catholic social teaching principle of the Dignity and Equality of the
Human Person.
BLESSING OF EASTER FOODS: As in years past, we will
celebrate the Blessing of Easter Foods on Holy Saturday morning
at 11AM, in the Lannon Chapel. Many families of Eastern European origin begin
their Easter celebration with this custom. Perhaps you would like to start this
tradition (or continue it) in your family?
SPRING/SUMMER CLOTHING DRIVE: Our annual clothing drive to benefit
Guests at St. Francis House Day Shelter in Boston will be Saturday/Sunday,
April 30th/May 1st. The new and gently used clothing that you donate will help
to clothe over 150 poor and homeless guests per week who seek clothing
assistance. SPRING AND SUMMER CLOTHING ONLY, PLEASE! This year’s wish list:
