OUTREACH MINISTRIES CRS RICE BOWL – WEEK 6: UNITED STATES CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING FOCUS: GLOBAL SOLIDARITY CRS Rice Bowl donations help the poor overseas and in your own community. On Sunday afternoons in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico, over a hundred people gather in the basement of Immaculate Conception Church to be served a Sunday dinner. Some are homeless. Others are newly unemployed, forced to decide whether to pay a utility bill or buy enough groceries to feed their families. No matter the circumstance, the parish community welcomes “anyone and everyone who is hungry to come and share a meal with us,” says Roberta Montoya, the coordinator of the parish’s Sunday Bread and Blessings meals, one of the projects in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe that receives a portion of CRS Rice Bowl funds. To learn more about CRS in the U.S., go to www.crsricebowl.org and click on Stories of Hope. MAY 4TH: PROJECT BREAD WALK FOR HUNGER Online registration is open at www.projectbread.org. You can walk, volunteer or sponsor a Walker or Volunteer, as a TEAM IGNATIUS member or as an individual. Walker and Volunteer Guides are on the Outreach table and at church entrances, as well. BLESSING OF EASTER FOODS: As in years past, we will celebrate the Blessing of Easter Foods on Holy Saturday morning at 11AM, in the Parish Center/Rectory Chapel (lower level). Many families of Eastern European origin begin their Easter celebration with this custom. Perhaps you would like to start this tradition (or continue it) in your family? SPRING CLOTHING DRIVE: Our annual Drive, to benefit adult Guests at St. Francis House Day Shelter in Boston, will be May 3rd and 4th. A list of wished-for items will be in coming bulletins or see the wall poster at any church entrance. FAITH FORMATION MIDDLE SCHOOL SERVICE PROJECT At this weekend’s masses, the Middle School Faith Formation (grades 6-8) will be collecting funds and supplies for HOPE for Ariang, a non-profit organization that educates children in South Sudan, Africa. The founder of HOPE for Ariang, Gabriel Bol Deng, visited the class last month and spoke about how the organization built and operates a school in a country that has been devastated by war and is currently facing widespread famine. Middle school students will be collecting pens and pencils as well as donations that will go toward feeding students through the school’s school lunch program. For more information on HOPE, go to www.HOPEforAriang.org. Thank you for your support! 4.
