Timolty 10:00 Ann Tumbascio Noon Anna Giaccarini 5:30 Marie Maffeo Spence Dear Parishioners, This past weekend, we had a day of reflection and planning with our Staff and Parish Pastoral Council. I am always very energized by the commitment and generosity of those parishioners who dedicate themselves to this ministry of service to the community. Since Lent is coming very soon (Ash Wednesday is February 13th), the focus of our conversation was the Lenten and Easter Season and how we can best animate our community’s prayer and service during this time. One of the scriptures of this “C” cycle of readings is Moses’ encounter with the mystery of God, present in the symbol of the “burning bush.” The voice that Moses hears tells him to “take off his shoes since he is on Holy Ground.” This theme of Holy Ground is one that has animated our Lenten prayer many times before, but it is such a rich image to be “cultivated”, that we will again be offering this as our Lenten/Easter theme. Speaking of “Holy Ground”, eighteen of us will head to Jamaica this weekend to walk on the Holy Ground of St Anne’s in West Kingston. This place has become Holy Ground for so many of us who have encountered the mystery of God in the joy and in the struggles of our Jamaican brothers and sisters whose faith is so strong despite the challenges they face on a day to day basis. During the time we are there, we will have a blessing of the playground/park that our parishioners are responsible for imagining and funding. Our team will be painting murals and planting, as well as a host of other activities. Please keep us all in your prayers and thank you for the support you offer for this ministry with the parishioners’ of St. Anne’s. Blessings! Fr. Bob 1. GROWING IN LOVE AND WISDOM: ADAPTING BUDDHIST MEDITATION FOR CHRISTIAN PRAYER— AUTHOR'S PRESENTATION AND BOOK SIGNING (FEBRUARY 3) Drawing from her recently published book, Growing in Love and Wisdom: Tibetan Buddhist Sources for Christian Meditation (Oxford University Press), Susan Stabile will explore some of the common values and understandings that underlie Christianity and Buddhism and talk about how interreligious engagement can offer mutual enrichment for people of both traditions. Her particular focus will be how meditation practices drawn from the Buddhist tradition (fifteen of which are presented in her book) can enrich Christian spirituality, and the event will include a guided meditation based on one of the book’s meditations. In the course of this exploration, she will talk about her experience in both faith traditions, each of which has contributed to the deepening of her spirituality. Growing in Love and Wisdom will be available for purchasing and signing. For more on Susan Stabile, visit http://susanjoan.wordpress.com. Sponsored by the Spiritual Life Commission on Sunday, February 3 at 4:00 pm in the Choir Room. Please RSVP to the Parish Office at 617-552-6102 or ignatius@bc.edu. "SIYA”: ST IGNATIUS YOUNG ADULTS THEOLOGY UNTAPPED, THURSDAY JANUARY 24TH - 7PM So the end of the world did not come in December... Come to Theology Untapped this month to find out what Catholic theologians say about the end times. In the process of the discussion, you may extend your vocabulary with words like "eschatology" or "apocalyticism." This is a fun and informative way to start the New Year! Fr. Randy Sachs, SJ, professor of systematic theology at Boston College, and former Dean of the Weston School of Theology, will lead our discussion on the Catholic understanding of the end of the world. We meet on Thursday 1/24, at the Green Briar Pub in Brighton Center. People start to gather at 7pm, the talk starts at 7:30pm. SIYA there!" BOOK DISCUSSION On February 10th there will be a discussion of the book, Mary, by Shalem Asch at 11:15 in the parish center. Though Jesus is ultimately the central character in this book, the perspective is that of his mother. As one reviewer writes, "The experience for me was eye-opening and penetrating. Our culture has been so Christianized (and post-Christianized) that we do not recognize the radically disruptive nature of the historical Jesus event." Come to the discussion and share your experience of reading this highly regarded book. 2. Many have joined the meetings. Many have moved on to new employment. Just these past few months, at least nine members have found success in their job search. We are joyful. For others, the search is still proceeding. If anyone in the parish is aware of a job opening in their own business or in their workplace, the group would be most appreciative of hearing about it. If you have a job opening, please send the link or description to Cathy Shea (catherinefshea@rcn.com) or Frank Faggiano (frank@faggianoconsulting.com). OUR LADY’S ACADEMY, WALTHAM OPEN HOUSE ST.
