SSR 2015-14 A Resolution for: Support of Equal Opportunities for Multicultural Students Sponsored by: Senator Hofmeyer, Senator Massey, Senator Kaufman, and Senator Applegate First Reading: November 4, 2015 Vote: 21-0-0 Speaker Action: ______________________________________________________________ Parker Bennett – Speaker Date WHEREAS: The Northern Iowa Student Government (NISG) represents the interests of the student body at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI); and RECOGNIZING: That an understanding and appreciation of society’s human diversity is an essential component of an excellent education and a foundation for responsible citizenship; and RECOGNIZING: That UNI should value, promote, and teach about diversity while fostering a community of inclusivity and diversity; and RECOGNIZING: That multicultural students deserve equal opportunities; and FURTHER RECOGNIZING: That it is the role of Northern Iowa Student Government to stand by the goals of increasing diversity on campus and making it a more inclusive environment for all students, prospective or already attending, at UNI; and BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED: That Northern Iowa Student Government expresses our support and solidarity to students who have experienced discrimination on UNI’s campus, and that the Northern Iowa Student Government is supportive of equal opportunities for multicultural students; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That copies of this resolution be sent to Black Student Union, Ethnic Student Promoters, Student Admission Ambassadors, Black Male Leaders Union, African Union, International Student Promoters, International Student Association, Hispanic Latino Student Union, Chinese Language and Culture Association, Saudi Students Club, Indian Students Association, Multicultural Graduate Student Association, Multicultural Teaching Alliance, Korean Language and Culture Club, Center for Multicultural Education, Refugee and Immigrant Support and Empowerment, Turkish Students Association, UNI President Bill Ruud, Dean of Students Leslie Williams, Vice President of Student Affairs Terrance Hogan, Provost Jim Wohlpart, The UNI Diversity and Inclusion Council, and any other parties at the discretion of the Speaker of the Senate.
