Des Moines Register 04-19-06 Young Adults weigh in Tainted by the riots of 2004, many of Iowa State's Veishea celebration's constructive undertakings have been regrettably overshadowed. This spring's return of the 84 year-old festivity is being met with a great deal of careful concern for the cooperation of the student body and the ISU police force. More impressive than the law enforcement's campaign for a safe weekend, however, is the tremendous amount of philanthropic events created and planned by the students of ISU. Earlier this month, as a gift to the Ames community from the Veishea committee, 250 volunteers came together to build a playground that will benefit the children of the Beloit Residential Treatment Center. Dozens of other clubs and charitable organizations will use this weekend's celebrations to promote and fund-raiser for their foundation. It is crucial that the unfortunate happenings of the 2004 Veishea celebrations not eclipse the tremendous accomplishments of Iowa State University and its students. -Chelsy Kemmet, Ames
