Metropolitan Community College DACC MEETING Thursday, February 11, 2016 3-4:30 PM PV 503 Minutes Attendees: Melissa Giese, Fran Padow, Mary Northrup, Jared Rinck, Karen Moore, Doug Fishel, Mike Cline, Jim McGraw, Christine Meyer, Tammie May, David Oehler, Mickey McCloud, Leo Hirner, Crystal Johnson Approval of Minutes The minutes were approved. Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs • Dr. Hillman recommends that all of DACC reviews the HLC report and develop a plan for the future IRB Report • IRB has been formed: Melissa Giese, Roger Massey, Lynette Jachowicz, Cynthia Heddleston, Deanna Snyder, Kimberly Glackin o Still looking for someone external to MCC • First meeting in March, but currently approving by email • Lynnette has one proposal for her dissertation under review • One proposal is a project that has already occurred, so Dr. Hillman will need to approve that HLC Committee Report • Steering Committee met last week • We will need to create some interim reports (mandated) • MCC will have a physical visit in four years o Keep up with assessments, as well as the three standards where we had concerns (Shared Governance and Strategic Planning) o We will need to have more deliberate plans in place to move the initiatives forward • We are no longer on the Open Pathway and back on the Standard Pathway Survey Reports • Noel Levitz Assessment Plan from Melissa • Institutional Priority Survey (IPS) – online survey sent to faculty after Spring break • Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI) - online survey sent to students after Spring break • We can add up to 10 questions on the surveys o It was recommended that we keep the same 10 questions so that we have multiple data points o Reword “The MCC environment is enriched by a diversity of students” – numbers 55 & 75 • Incentives: We should have some incentives in order to increase response rates (ie, Chromebook, Apple TV stick, Roku, etc.) • For the last administration, Melissa, along with Campus Life and Leadership, set up computer stations on some of the campuses to make it easier for students to take the survey. • Dr. Hillman will be emailing faculty about the IPS survey o IPS will be for faculty, as well as administrators and staff who have contact with students Metropolitan Community College DACC MEETING Thursday, February 11, 2016 3-4:30 PM PV 503 MCC Open Pathway Improvement Project Report • Discipline Review Presentations before the officers will take place in Fall 2016 for the 3rd Cohort: Anthropology, Art, English, Library, Music, Political Science, Speech o Fall is typically program review and spring is typically discipline review o Dr. Hillman is working with everyone to set up 3 dates – probably end of November or beginning of December • The 4th cohort is still on schedule for next spring • Collecting rosters from all disciplines who assessed in Spring and Fall 2015 Higher Learning Commission Update • Team will be attending the HLC Annual Conference in Chicago on April 17-19, 2016 to learn more about the Standard Pathway Assessment Reports No report Proposals for new assessment or survey requests No report Campus Reports • BR – Gearing up for All for the Children – March 19th • BTC–No report • LV – First meeting next week; lots of co-curricular assessments coming up • MW – Working on the FOCUS grant • PV – No report • FOCUS Grant – o Course evaluations from Fall 2015 are done o 84% of students did the Engage survey, but more are expected to come o External evaluator will be visiting in March – she will be sitting in on some classrooms Old Business • How should we assess our new AA Degree? Should we connect it to our General Education Outcomes or should we have a different set of Outcomes to determine effectiveness or need for improvement? Should we consider course mapping to determine how our AA Degree satisfies Student Learning Outcomes? – Discussion of information gathered from campus committees • Tristan Londre has facilitated a $60,000 grant application for RightSignals. If approved funds could be used for faculty work units to familiarize themselves with national frameworks.
