Availability and long-term support thanks to latest technology in Pasir Gudang Electrical Solutions Reference Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical SPPA-E3000 Excitation Systems & Startup Frequency Converters is the modernization solution for Pasir Gudang, supporting a high availability of the plant. The Result ■ Reduced obsolescence risk thanks to replacement of aging Excitation System and SFC ■ Utmost availability thanks to long-term support by spare parts, repair and services ■ Minimized outage time thanks to optimized project implementation The Plant Pasir Gudang Power Station is a gas-fired CCPP in Malaysia, which is operated by YTL Power Services. It consists of two gas turbines, two heat recovery steam generators and one steam turbine with a total power of 404 MW. The first unit was commissioned in 1994 and the last in 1995. The plant supplies power to the national utility company Tenaga Nasional Berhad. The Task Due to the aging excitation system and startup frequency converter of unit 11 in Pasir Gudang, the spare parts, repairs and services became obsolete. In case of a failure YTL Power would not be able to operate the gas turbine, which would affect the availability of the whole plant. To reduce this risk and ensure the availability of the plant, the aging technology needed to be upgraded. Our Solution With SPPA-E3000 Excitation Systems and Startup Frequency Converters we offered a technical solution that meets the footprint and customer requirements in Pasir Gudang. The aging components were replaced by the newer version D03 of SPPA-E3000 SES Type SEMIPOL, which was designed and configured to the power plant environment. Not only that the latest digital technology is incorporated in the system, it is also supported for 15 years in spare parts. Through a additionally guarantee of repair until 2030 and services up to the year 2034 the obsolescence risk was reduced, whereas availability was considerably increased. Thanks to our optimized project implementation we delivered, installed and commissioned the solution according to customer‘s planned outage. “The local competency to execute the project convinced us to conclude the contract with Siemens. Now we are pleased with the result: A solution with the latest technology, that meets the footprint and ensures long-term support – realized within a short amount of time.” Ir.
