SPPA-E3000 Complete Electrical Package
provides a comprehensive one-stop turnkey
solution, accompanied with competent project
execution, for all electrical systems in the new
Akköy-II hydro power plant in Turkey for
convenient, consistent control of all processes.
The Plant
One of the world’s top 10 and Turkey’s highest
(1241 m) hydroelectric power plant, Akköy-II is
located in the north-eastern province of Giresun.
Based on two 115 MW Pelton turbines with two
vertical-axis synchronous generators, an energy
output of 890 GWh/year serves all of the
electricity needs of Giresun and the nearby
regions of Ordu and Gümüshane. This provides
2.5 % of Turkey’s power thus enabling annual
savings of about 100 million (USD) for gas
imports.
With most of the electrical equipment produced
in Turkey, Siemens delivered, installed and
commissioned two 154/14 4kV transformers,
a 14,4 kV Generator Circuit Breaker (GCB),
Isolated Phase Busbar (IPB), TRV Communication
System, LV 400 V AC / 110 V DC switchboards,
HV / MV / LV systems, and power and control
cable supply.
This comprehensive and proven solution
guarantees utmost availability from the
beginning due to high-quality components
and innovative technology. Furthermore,
effective design minimizes power consumption.
Siemens was also responsible for training the
operating personnel. Even after completing
the project, Siemens continues to support the
customer with local service.
The Task
As it had just been built, the hydroelectric
power plant Akköy-II needed to be electrically
equipped from the ground up. For this task,
operator Akköy Enerji required a single, highly
experienced, comprehensive electrical solution
provider in order to ensure plant’s utmost
availability and highest energy efficiency. The
solution provider would also need to be able to
take over the entire project execution, including
all necessary resources.
Our Solution
Operator Akköy Enerji trusted Siemens’ extensive
know-how and expertise, acquired through more
than 500 successfully completed electrical
engineering projects, including hydroelectric
power plants.
Thus, Siemens also competently managed the
entire electrical equipping of Akköy-II: the onestop, turnkey SPPA-E3000 Complete Electrical
Package solution includes all electrical
components and services required for the
construction of a new power plant.
