PARENT/STUDENT PRE-TRYOUT LETTER

PLEASE READ! VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION!

Dear Cheerleader and Parent:

Bartow High will be holding tryouts on June 5, 6, 7, 9 & 10 in the Gymnasium at Bartow High School. The final day will be June 10 th and will be held in the Multipurpose Room.

Times are as follows:

Thursday, June 5 th : 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm (All paperwork MUST be turned in at the beginning of tryouts. You will not be able to participate without a new physical dated between June 1 st and June 5 th , 2013.)

Friday, June 6 th : 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm (tentative)

Saturday, June 7 th : 9:00 am -11:00 am

Monday, June 9 th : 9:00 am -11:00 am

Tuesday, June 10 th : Tryouts start at 8:00 am in the Multipurpose Room. You will be given your tryout time on

Monday, June 9 th . You need to be in front of the MP room 30 minutes prior to your tryout time to stretch and warm up.

***Teams will be announced at 2:00 pm on Saturday. If you make a squad, you will need to attend a uniform fitting at 2:30 pm. You will also be required to attend a post-selection meeting with at least one parent/guardian on June 10 th at 6:00 pm in the BHS Cafeteria. Your first payment will be due at this time.***

Cheerleaders and Parents must be aware of the following requirements and expectations before trying out:

Cheerleaders must have a minimum GPA of 2.0

All previous cheerleading debts must be paid

Minimal absences/disciplinary infractions in school

Each cheerleader is responsible for raising or supplying the cost of camps, clothes, shoes, warm-ups, bags, bows, any cheerleading accessories needed, tumbling class fees and competition fees (competition team).

The average anticipated cost per cheerleader for 1 year is approximately $1,000.00.

Squad members will be required to participate in all fundraiser events and efforts. These will consist of, but are not limited to the following: selling signs for the football stadium, selling cookie dough/magazines, participating in cheer clinics and participating in our Powder Puff game.

Cheerleading is a TEAM sport. Therefore, practice is MANDATORY . If practices are missed, team members may be dismissed from the squad. Cooperation and proper attitude are a requirement. Regular practice will be scheduled in advance so arrangements can be made around them. Summer practices will also be scheduled and mandatory.

Cheerleading is year round and cheerleaders are required to participate in football/basketball games. If a cheerleader decides not to complete the season it will be looked upon as quitting. Tumbling class will be held once a week during our regularly scheduled practices.

SUMMER CAMP & STUNT CLINICS ARE REQUIRED. THE DATES ARE:

UCA STUNT CAMP @ UCF (both squads): July 21-24

STUNT CLINIC @ BHS (Varsity): August 4-7

If both cheerleader and parent agree to the above information, please sign and return this letter with your checklist. All paperwork must be completed prior to tryouts to be eligible.

The list below contains information on what we’re looking for in a BHS Cheerleader. Please look over these lists carefully as all decisions made on the day of tryouts are FINAL!

FEMALES:

1 cheer taught for tryouts

1 short dance taught for tryouts

2 chants taught for tryouts

Strong, sharp motions

Facials, personality and voice

The ability to learn material quickly

Timeliness

Cheer, dance, jump, tumbling, and stunting technique

*** VARSITY requires a minimum of a standing back handspring ***

MALES:

1 cheer taught for tryouts

3 eight count stunt sequence (highlighting your best skills)

Toss chair

Transition to hands (toss, walk up, L up, toe pitch)

Loud voice

The ability to learn material quickly

Timeliness

Technique

***You may not participate until ALL paperwork is completed and turned in.

What to wear/bring to tryouts:

T-shirt or athletic tank tops

Athletic shorts

Socks and athletic shoes (cheer shoes for flyers)

Hair pulled back and out of face

NO JEWELRY

Bring your own water and/or tape.

What to wear ON JUNE 10 th :
