 Most homework assignments are worth five points. You will be scored according to completion, not precision, because homework is practice.

However, incomplete work or illegible/sloppy work will be given a

score of three (3) or zero (0), depending on the degree of incompleteness or sloppiness.

 Credit will not be given for late work.

 Participation is an important component of class. Volunteering to answer questions, going to the board, taking part in a class discussion, etc. are all integral to success in any course; therefore, points will be awarded for participation and a grade assigned accordingly.

 Quizzes, projects, and tests range in point values from 20 (quizzes) to 100 (tests/projects), depending on the amount of material covered. retesting policy

 In the event that a student receives lower than a 70% on a TEST, he/she may take a retest.

 A student may request a retest ONCE per semester and the following requirements must be met first:

 the student must notify his/her wish to be retested

 the student must not have any missing, incomplete, or illegible assignments

 the test must be made up within a week of the original test

 the student must make arrangements to meet with me (at a mutually agreed upon time either before or after school) to determine the reteaching/relearning requirements for that particular test

 the retest grade will be averaged with the original test grade and the average will be entered into Progress Book make-up work

 It is the student’s responsibility to initiate and complete all makeup work. Please refer to the GHS Student Handbook for guidelines regarding attendance policies.

 If you are absent for a test or quiz review, get the notes from a classmate.

 If you are present when a test or quiz is announced but miss the review, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE THE TEST/QUIZ!

80/20 policy

At Green High School, grades are calculated in all classes based on the

80/20 Policy.

As a result, a student’s grade is divided into two categories: Academic Achievement and Academic Practice.

After a student has had sufficient instruction and practice on a topic, it is then reasonable to judge his/her mastery of the information or skills in the form of academic achievement assessments. The purpose is to evaluate how well a student has learned the material. Eighty percent of the total course grade comes from academic achievement and will consist of tests

(oral, written and performance), some quizzes, some homework, writings, projects or presentations.

Whenever a student learns new material he or she goes through a time of wrestling with the material before eventually mastering the information or skills. It is expected that a student will

make some mistakes during this learning process. Work completed during this learning period is considered academic practice . Twenty percent of the total course grade comes from academic practice and will consist of some quizzes, homework, first drafts of writing, teacher questions during instruction, some worksheets, informal observations or pre-testing.

Learning is not attained by chance.

It must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.
