COURSE DESCRIPTION: This program allows students to learn 350 medical terms, how to take patient vital signs, and to complete a Community Emergency Response Training course. Students will have the opportunity to become certified in CPR and First Aid through the American Heart Association.

Students will cover 12 content segments including workplace safety, legal and ethical practices, and health maintenance. Students who qualify will also have the opportunity to participate in a work experience opportunity.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1) Students will be able to apply appropriate safety measures in the work place.

2) Students will be able to apply technical skills for a given situation.

3) Students will be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

4) Students will understand disease prevention and apply behaviors that promote health and wellness.

5) Students will know the academic subject matter to be proficient in their area of study.

6) Students will understand the importance of team work in a health care setting. They will be able to demonstrate the ability to be an effective team leader and team member.

7) Students will understand how their role fits into their environment. They will identify how key systems affect services and quality of care.

8) Students will understand how employability skills will increase their employment opportunities and demonstrate these skills on a regular basis.

9) Students will use information technology applications required within career specialties.

10) Students will describe the legal and ethical practices within a health care delivery setting.
