Beowulf Review
The test will consist of multiple choice, fill in the blank, short answer, and essay
sections. Below are the major themes and aspects you will be responsible for on the
test. I wish you luck on the test but control your own destiny!
1. Make sure you know who each character is and their role in the story. Ex: Beowulf
(obviously), Hrothgar, Wiglaf, Higlac, the dragon etc…
2. Make sure you know the chronology of the events.
3. Know the motivations for certain actions. Ex: Why did Grendel’s mother attack Herot?
4. Make sure you know the circumstances that dictated how certain characters met their
death.
5. If I stopped and asked what a certain passage or sentence meant, it will probably show up
on the test in a short answer form.
6. Essay topics may include: the explanation of what a hero is according to the poem
Beowulf, the message of good vs. evil
