Assessment
Four ways for students to complete their assessment
Required only if the
requirement:
student doesn’t meet any
other assessment
requirements.
Not required for
admittance to Ivy
Tech
Students can check on the status of their
test scores submitted to Ivy Tech by
contacting the Admissions Office.
ACT/SAT/PSAT scores
Generally the following scores, if completed within the
last four years, qualify for an assessment waiver
1.460 or higher on each section of the SAT
2.46 or higher on each section of the PSAT
3.17 in English, 18 in Reading, and 18 in Math or higher on each
section of the ACT
• Taking the SAT/ACT/PSAT is not required for
admittance.
• Visit www.ivytech.edu/scores to guide the student on
where to submit SAT/ACT/PSAT scores.
High School GPA
• Generally, a high school cumulative GPA of 2.6 or higher on a 4.0 scale will
meet the assessment requirement if this was your final GPA at the time of
graduation and if you completed high school within the last four years.
• You must have graduated with a Core 40, Technical Honors, or Academic
Honors diploma or equivalent.
• High school seniors who have not yet graduated can use the cumulative
GPA after seven high school semesters have been completed.
• Students can bring a copy of the high school transcript to campus or visit
http://www.ivytech.edu/assessment/gpasubmit.html to find out where to
send high school transcripts.
College Transcripts
• If the student is a Transfer Student, they have likely already earned
college credits or an Associate degree at another college or
university.
– If so, the student should submit the college transcript to the Admissions Office
(http://www.ivytech.edu/admissions/contacts.html for a list of contacts) or bring
the transcript to campus.
• General education courses taken at another regionally accredited
institution, with a grade of "C-" or higher, may be used to waive the
ACCUPLACER exam.
• To find out if another college or university is a regionally accredited
institution, visit www.ncahlc.org.
Accuplacer
• Last resort if student cannot assess using other avenues
(SAT/ACT/PSAT, HS GPA, college transcript)
• Test must be taken on an Ivy Tech campus, visit
www.ivytech.edu/assessment to make an appointment
• Test includes writing, math and reading comprehension
sections.
• Test will take 3+ hours to complete.
Accuplacer Study Resources
The Accuplacer determines what courses a student will take in
Math and English, so it is important to prepare for the test.
Below is a list of resources for the student:
eststudyguide.pdf
• http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownlo

If a student has to take Accuplacer, be sure to email these links as
part of the follow-up to the student.
IVY PREP Coming Soon to ALL Campuses
• Ivy Prep helps students maximize their chances of being
placed directly into their chosen program path.
• Ivy Prep is designed to make it more likely a student will
perform well on the Accuplacer assessment, whether taking it
for the first time or trying to improve previous scores.
• Visit www.ivytech.edu/ivyprep for the latest information.
Advising
• All students will meet with an academic advisor
before registering for classes. An advisor will help
build a student’s schedule.
• To make an appointment, visit
www.ivytech.edu/advising.
• Please look at the different meeting options. Some
regions have appointments while others do walk-ins.
This changes a lot during rush enrollment periods of
July/August and December/January.
Transferring Credits
Ivy Tech Community College encourages students who have
previously attended other regionally accredited colleges or
universities to forward transcripts to the college prior to
enrollment for consideration of transfer credit.
Students can send their official college transcripts to the Registrar’s Office.
Visit www.ivytech.edu/registrar for a list of contacts.
Transfer Credit Standards
Ivy Tech accepts courses with grades of C- or better from
regionally accredited colleges regardless of the age of the
course.
There are some exceptions in the case of very specialized
computer and technology classes, which are reviewed on a
case-by-case basis.
To find out if a college or university is accredited, visit
www.ncahlc.org.
Transcripts
Ivy Tech can accept an unofficial transcript if the student is
using it to assess or to demonstrate prerequisite coursework.
An official copy of a transcript must be
used when transferring credit from
another college to Ivy Tech
Credit for Prior Learning (PLA)
• Get credit for what you already know
• Ivy Tech Community College offers Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) for
students with select qualifications and expertise. Ivy Tech evaluates your
credentials to see how much credit you are qualified to receive. When you
earn credit through PLA, you may save a significant amount of money and
complete your degree more quickly.
• Work experience, military service, technical training service in AmeriCorps
or the Peace Corps are all examples of ways you may have developed the
experience and knowledge needed to earn PLA credit. The exact credit
awarded is determined using one of three methods:
–
–
–
Certification Crosswalk
Credit by Examination
PLA Portfolio
• Visit www.ivytech.edu/pla for further information.
• The process for PLA can take up to 6 months to complete.
