Reflection paper
My performance on my research project most improved with my ability in being able to
develop critical literacies that can help me get through the classes I still have to take. I am much better
at understanding what and how to write a critical analysis after taking this course. This course has
helped me to present my ideas in an organized way so that readers can understand my writing. My
research paper kept me engaged in continuous creative thinking, since I got to choose what topic I
wanted to write about as well as what points I wanted to address to make it interesting to readers.
Critical analysis can into play when I had to discuss my opinion on how I felt about abortion. Before I
even began writing my research paper, I had to critically evaluate the credibility of specific sources I
chose to use to aid me in my research. This class really connected with my Communications class
because I had to write outlines for both classes on subjects of my choice. I was able to organize my
communication speeches better because of the organizational skills I was learning in my English class.
This assignment has impacted me in a way that has helped me to appreciate different opinions that
people may have regarding a controversial issue. I realize how important it is to listen to both sides of an
argument before I can truly make a decision about my opinion. Abortion is a very controversial topic in
our society and I enjoyed learning why people believed in the beliefs that they do.
In completing this assignment, I had to write an annotated bibliography, which is an analysis of
all of my sources I chose to use for my research paper. Then I had write an issue summary to provide an
objective account of the facts and arguments regarding Abortion. I had to include three different
perspectives on my topic. The purpose of my issue summary was to present a clear understanding of my
topic and the different viewpoints associated with it. Next, I had to examine 2-3 of my sources in depth
and critically analyze the appeals of these sources. Last, I had to write an essay in a casual tone about
my research topic. I had to explain what I learned from the arguments and consider the positions and
then decide what I thought about each position.
