Callahan talks about the abortion industry in regards to supporting, though unintentional, of the masculine sexual agenda. More in the past but there is still a considerable impression that not only considers women but also children as a subordinate of men. The idea of abortion should not push women to carry out self-control or to work against their individual values. The fact that abortion puts more responsibility upon women makes it seem like the baby or the fetus’s has life value only when the mother allows it. I feel that the author is trying to talk about this similarity in the idea of subordination and responsibility in connection to the moral dependency between men over women and now, women over the baby. Callahan talks of issues such as autonomous right that one should have to control their body, the sense of responsibility, a contingent value of fetal life, and the right to full social equality. Although I have not considered abortion to masculinize female sexuality because my opinions were more basic in that abortion is necessary as it prevents further difficulties of mothers and also the babies. But I do agree with her ideas more in that one must have control of their body, the reproductive freedom and the need for social equality. I was able to understand her thoughts and saw that inequality and lack of social support are still apparent and endorsing abortion alone will not solve or provide an answer to the controversy over abortion. Among the issues that she mentioned, I saw that the advancement of social support to increase the awareness of sexual equality was important. If mothers were given adequate economic and social support that allows them to achieve the self-confidence, the need for abortion would decrease. I feel that this stability will ultimately influence the building of the sense of responsibility and the ability to think over how one should have control over their body as well.
