KINDERGARTEN TIMES
READING:
This week, we will finish the
second unit in our reading
series entitled, “Colors All
Around.” Even though we do
not have to know how to spell
our color words yet, the kids
are doing an awesome job of
recognizing the color words!
We will continue to work on
our 5-finger retell-which tells
the characters, setting,
beginning, middle, and end of
a story. You can also work on
doing this with stories that
you are reading at home with
your child.
We began our centers last
week, and they continue to
go very well! Our reading
centers will allow us to work
with partners on a variety of
reading skills each day, in
addition to focused
instruction by the teachers.
During centers this week, we
will complete several end of
the quarter assessments
regarding word wall words,
rhyming, counting the
number of words in
sentences, and beginning
sounds.
WORD WORK:
There are ten word wall
words that students will be
assessed on this week- a, the,
I, see, and, go, and had, has,
he and you. Students will be
shown a flash card with the
word and will need to tell me
the word that they see. If you
have not done so already, it
would be a great idea to
make flashcards of these
words to practice at home!
We will add like and because
this week, but they will not
be part of the assessment for
first quarter. At the end of
the week, students should be
able to recognize and read
these words in any books or
writing. We will explore the
letter Zz and will also start
sounds and blending of
words. Our focus will be the
Ss sound this week. Find
objects at home that begin
and end with these letters,
and write the words with your
child so that they begin to
recognize that the written
letters match the sounds that
we hear!
d
WRITING:
We will be assessing the
writing of the letters of the
alphabet and our names this
week. We will also
complete an end of the
quarter writing prompt.
Please continue to work with
your child on proper hold of
a pencil and writing his or
her name daily.
MATH:
We will finish topic 4numbers 0-5 this week. We
will take our topic 4 test on
Thursday. It is a good idea
to review the in-class math
pages before the test.
There is a math homework
sheet today about making 4
and 5.
Please note that the math
papers that come home from
in-class work will have a star
if they are correct, or
numbers circled that your
child needed extra guidance
with. Please go over these
sheets with your child each
night.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
The students did an
awesome job with the fire
safety unit! We began
