Kindergarten Unit 4:
HOW THE WORLD WORKS
Dear parents and students,
We are now starting our unit on How the world works focusing on the forces that act upon people and
objects. Our class will be working on projects, hands on activities, and use smaller levelled groups to help
each student grow and learn as much as he or she can. Our summative task this unit is to engage in an
experiment on how objects may be moved using different kinds of forces and write a superhero story that will
show how different kinds of forces are used in doing good things. Below is some information about the
different facets that will be taken up throughout the unit. This can serve as a reference to further reinforce
learning at home.

Skills:
THINKING SKILLS - The children will practice different approaches to inquiry that will require them to
use comprehension, application of what they have previously learned and the analysis of data that they
have gathered.
RESEARCH SKILLS - The children will practice formulating questions about and observing the movement
of familiar things. They will also collect data and organize them into graphs to help them answer their
questions.

If you have any materials, activities, or photographs or media related to our unit, we
welcome your ideas and materials. If you are familiar with people or community
resources that we could contact for information, your information would make the
unit more interesting for all of us.
Second, we welcome your insights into your child’s special interests, learning styles, prior
experiences and/or knowledge on the theme, or needs related to our unit. We will try to
accommodate special interests and needs as time allows within small group work, projects,
and homework.
Finally, we would like to ask for your help with our projects, research, and homework. We
believe that children can learn more when they work with partners than when they work
alone.
