Once again, WELCOME to my World History class! I am very excited to have you! I will do my best to ensure your success in my class. With that being said, I have compiled a list of helpful tips/reminders for you to have a comfortable and successful experience. 1) Your pace chart is located under the ‘Course Information’ tab. Please view this each week to make sure you are on pace to complete the course in a timely manner. 2) The traditional pace chart contains the required minimum amount of work you must do every week. You should never skip over any assignments. Do them in order. 3) By following your pace chart, you will be submitting 3 assignments each week. Assignments should be turned in to me by Sunday at 8PM. You are not limited to only 3 assignments though. You are always allowed to work ahead! 4) Failure to submit required assignments each week will lead to a withdrawal in the class. If you are withdrawn during your grace period (first 2 weeks of class), you will be withdrawn with no grade. However, if you are withdrawn after you’ve been in the class for more than 2 weeks, you will be withdrawn with an F. To prevent this from happening, please complete the required work every week. See #1 above. 5) Located under the ‘Lessons’ tab is your “book” and assignment directions. This is where you go to read all the required information and to see the directions for your assignment. 6) Once you are ready to submit your work or take your quiz (depending on what the assignment requires) you are to submit it under the ‘Assessments’ tab. 7) Some assignments require for you to attach a file. Make sure you save your work in an .rtf, .doc, or .pdf format. When attaching a file in the assessments area make sure you always check the ‘submit for grading’ box or the assignment will not come to me. 8) To help you prepare for exams, quizzes and assignments, I strongly encourage you to complete the Travel Journals. They are notes for you to copy and save onto your computer. There is one for each assignment and you can use them while taking quizzes and exams. 9) If you are registered for both semester 1 and 2, please only work in ONE semester at a time. Working in the wrong semester does not count towards your grade and should not be done! Semester 1 is Modules 1-4 and Semester 2 is Modules 5-8. 10) Throughout the lessons you will see assignments labeled as ‘Discussion Based Assessment (DBA). A DBA is an assignment which is completed over the phone with me. Whenever you come to a DBA, please call me to complete it and do not skip them. 11) Throughout the course several assignments will ask you to “create a Web 2.0 presentation to demonstrate what you’ve learned”. For these assignments you may simply create a PowerPoint presentation if you like. 12) Each month there are numerous Collaboration Sessions held to assist you with completing this required part of class. You must attend and complete just 1 session per semester. The schedule is located on the course announcement page. 13) You can call me anytime at (__________). Please remember to include your first and last name and a phone number where you can be reached at. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call or email me!
