Week 2
COMPARE/CONTRAST PRACTICE
Read the poem “Ballad of Birmingham” and the
article “Pain of Deadly Birmingham Church
Bombing Lingers 40 Years Later.”
 Answer each question and provide evidence from
the text to support your answer choices.

Reminders:
 Make sure you read the text and each
answer choice carefully before selecting a
final response.
 If you cannot find support in the text for
your answer, your answer may be incorrect.
“THE EXPERIMENT”
Read “The Experiment” on page 11. As you are
reading, respond to the guiding questions on your
Cornell notes.
 When you finish reading, identify 3 examples of
descriptive language within the text by
explaining what was being described and how the
author described it. (A space is included at the
end of the Cornell notes.)
 Answer questions #2-3 on page 17 in complete
sentences.

HOMEWORK FOR SEPTEMBER 23RD

Write a descriptive paragraph about a room in
your home.


Use plenty of adjectives and directional terms to help
guide us through the room that you choose.
This assignment is due on Thursday, September
25th.

BOOK TALK #3
Students write a short paper (no more than 1
page) of what they read during the week in their
independent reading books.
 You need to include:

Name of Book
Pages read this week
Summary (6-8 sentences)
Most shocking/interesting/favorite moment so far OR a
question you might have for the author
Interesting or unknown vocabulary with definitions (at
least 2)
“THE CONTAINER”
Read “The Container” and keep an eye out for
descriptive language being used.
 After reading, go back through the article and
highlight examples of descriptive language in the
text.

